O tema principal de Bamboo Blade é kendo, a arte marcial moderna de espada do Japão, com um toque humorado que mostra a atividade do time feminino de kendo de um colégio. O protagonista é o professor Ishida Toraji, um miserável sem dinheiro para comer, responsável pelo time de kendo do colégio. Um dia, o velho conhecido professor Ishibashi de outro colégio, convida para um amistoso de kendo de 5x5, oferecendo sushi de graça por um ano, caso consiga vencer. Ishida aceita, mas por falta de membros, desesperadamente corre em busca de cinco membros, mas não consegue e quando está perdendo esperança, encontra uma garota talentosa e decide tê-la a todo custo para começar a formar o time dos seus sonhos.
