A história se passa no início do século 21, quando a Terra é invadida por robôs gigantes. O jovem Daisaku Kusama encontra um desses monstros, o GR-1, em uma ruína em Okinawa. Influenciado por forças que não consegue entender, Daisaku acaba firmando uma forte ligação com o misterioso robô. Ao se dar conta do que fez, o jovem se vê no meio de uma guerra entre duas misteriosas organizações pelo controle desses robôs. Animação produzida como forma de comemorar os 40 anos da obra original.
