Yuta Hibiki desperta com amnésia e a capacidade de ver coisas que os outros não conseguem. Ele encontra pela primeira vez o Gridman no reflexo do computador de sua amiga, Rikka Takarada, que diz a ele "Lembre-se de seu chamado", mas Yuta não entende o que isso significa. Mais tarde, ao longe, ele vê um monstro gigantesco que não se move. Só quando Yuta chega à escola é que os dois avistamentos fazem sentido: um monstro ataca e a imagem que Yuta viu no monitor o puxa para dentro do computador e o transforma em um herói gigante chamado Gridman.
