Os ocidentais chegam em Kyôto, e o xogunato se aproxima de seu fim. Nio, um menino de bom coração, vive em meio a esse cenário caótico, e seu futuro está prestes a mudar. Um dia, acaba conhecendo dois “Miburô”, os samurais Hijikata Toshizo e Okita Sôji. Ambos fazem parte do grupo de rônin de Mibu, a futura força policial de samurais conhecida como Shinsengumi.
